The Department of Homeland Security has many areas that welcome veterans. Customs and Border Protection (CBP)

Protecting borders is a big job. With nearly 6,000 miles of land borders to protect and over 2,00 miles of coastal borders, these individuals prevent illegal entry in the U.S. by land, air and water. There are also agricultural specialists who protect against the spread of pests and diseases.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)

As the DHS’s largest investigative agency, ICE employees include intelligence officers, detention and deportation officers, as well as immigration enforcement agents and Health Service Corps. ICE has a veterans outreach program.

Secret Service (USSS)

Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)

Federal Protective Service (FPS)

The main goal for FPS is to provide a safe and secure workplace to federal facilities across the US. through security and law enforcement services. There are many positions available for different areas of expertise.

Transportation Security Administration (TSA)

These individuals are committed to keeping Americans and those who visit safe and secure as they travel throughout the US.  Coast Guard (USCG)

While the Coast Guard is one of the five branches of military, it falls under the DHS. There are a wide range of opportunities that include marine science, damage control, drug interdiction, field intelligence, and much more.

National Protection and Programs Directorate (NPPD)

These individuals protect and enhance the resilience of the nation’s physical and cyber infrastructure. As part of the NPPD you protect others from vulnerabilities like terrorist or cyber attacks and natural disasters.
